Overcoming Stress and Anxiety
There are TWO really important things you need to know about Stress
1. Everyone experiences it to some degree – it’s a natural human reaction
2. It does not need to control your life – you can learn to manage it
Although people manage stress differently, the physiology of stress is largely similar for everyone. Symptoms can include
- Abdominal pain
- Trembling hands
- Tight shoulders and neck
- Lower back pain
- Heart Palpitations
- Dry mouth
- Increased blood pressure
- Trouble sleeping
And the list doesn’t stop there.
Chronic stress experienced over a long period of time can lead to us experiencing mental, emotional and behavioural issues, because body and mind work together. Whatever affects one, affects the other as well. And because mind, body, and emotions are connected, stress can have a profound effect on your emotional well-being, leading to feelings of anger, depression or cynicism. This in turn leads to changes in behavior, because when you feel differently the chances are that you will act differently – so existing habits may become exaggerated during stressful periods of time. For example, if you tend to overeat, you may find that in times of stress you will be overeating that much more.
While you can’t avoid stress completely, you can learn to manage it and its effect on you, and this is where hypnotherapy may help. It can allow you to
- Identify your stress triggers – they may not be as obvious as you think
- Learn how to take back control using relaxation, breathing and noticing what is happening
- Develop new supportive habits so you can feel in control.
All this happens in a safe and relaxing environment, where everything you say is completely confidential. You will also receive a personalized audio recording to listen to between sessions.
